Great Workout Songs to Give You Motivation to Exercise - The Top Workout Songs to Motivate You to Get Fit

Updated on December 2, 2016

Some of The Best Workout Songs

If you want to listen to music while working out in the gym, the park or running on the road then you'll want something small, sleek and discrete. Something small that is unlikely to skip or be an extra weight. You also don't want it to be a nuisance or inconvenient.

Remember! If you're running near traffic make sure you keep yourself safe by not putting the music up too loud and try to avoid noise cancelling earphones.

Here are some of the best options for playing music while you exercise

If you are looking to exercise in the gym and want to take your iPad along to watch or listen to while working out, then this is the must have solution for you.

Regardless of whether you like to workout or you loathe exercise time, music can make a workout better, easier and more enjoyable.

Working out to music is the best of both worlds; you get to increase your heart rate while moving to the rhythm of the beat. You can run, cycle, row, dance, jump or stretch in time to the music.

It's up to you which exercise you'd like to do, but here's a list of songs to make that time in the gym pass faster and be more enjoyable.

Most of these workout songs are up tempo and have a strong beat. This allows you to move in time to the music working on aspects such as timing and co-ordination. Many exercise classes are done to music for this reason and also because it's more enjoyable.

I personally find the gym can be boring and mundane. I love to exercise, but I want it to be fun and entertaining.

I find it hard to concentrate on the TV screens built into the machines and I love the fact that I can take my iPod to the next station with me and listen to whatever I want, rather than what is playing in the gym.

Here is my list of the top workout songs that I listen to while at the gym.

Perhaps these same tracks can help you get fitter faster too.

The best workout songs are the ones that make you work harder without even realizing because you're enjoying yourself. There's nothing worse than being on the treadmill and constantly looking at the timer or the distance ran, wondering if that's been long enough.

You'll feel better while exercising by losing yourself in the music and having fun instead. You'll still get a great workout and you'll be more motivated to keep going to the gym.

Top 10 Workout Songs

Furious Angel by Rob Dougan is one of my all time favorite songs. Not only is it amazing, but it's also an amazing piece of music. It's clearly steeped in classical music, but paired with a great beat. The tempo is upbeat and gradually builds up speed. This is the first track I listen to when I first get on the treadmill.

This is an amazing song to run to as it's an instrumental. You won't look like a nutter singing along to the song, and yes I have done that before. It's easy to get lost in this song and actually enjoy the act of running.

Even the guy in the music video likes to run and the video reflects the momentum built up during the song. The song was featured in The Matrix.

U Don't Know Me by Armand Van Helden is one of the top workout songs I have on my Ipod. I love listening to this song while running or on the eliptical machine. It's great to listen to this song while on the running machine because it's a great pace to run to. You can time your pace to the beat. On the cross trainer, I tend to put it on a lower resistance and increase the speed. If no one is watching, you can even do a little dance while you are on the machine.

I love this song because it's a great dance track. It almost feels like the singer is talking to the machines and the other gym members saying that they don't know him. The song is almost like a mantra telling people not to judge you. You made it to the gym, you're working out and it's nothing to do with them.

Stardusts version of Music Sounds Better With You is a great summer anthem and makes me really motivated to workout. Not only does it make we work harder in the gym, but it's also great fun. With such an upbeat and funky tempo it's great for keeping a constant rhythm and a relatively comfortable pace.

This song also reminds me of summer and keeps my exercise goals firmly in my mind. I workout to keep fit, but also to look good. This song reminds me of summer and the beach. I want to fit in that swimsuit and this song keeps that goal in the forefront. Call me vain if you want, but keeping yourself healthy and fit requires work.

If you ever see the crazy chick on the treadmill singing to herself then it's probably me listening to this song.

Although Wandue Project recorded King of My Castle for the anime movie Ghost in the Shell, it is a great tune to workout to. The tempo is strong, clear and consistent. It's almost as if there are people marching in the song and is really great to stomp along to.

If you have two left feet and struggle to find a beat, then this is the perfect song for you to workout to. The song starts with the beat before adding the other instruments and vocals. It's a fairly simple song and very memorable.

If you like running round the park, or taking spinning classes, then this could be the perfect song for you.

The tempo in this song is all over the place. In some parts it's very slow and others it's extremely fast. It would be perfect for spinning, as at the fast bits you'd climb out of the saddle and turn those pedals as fast as possible and then pedal slower and recover in the slower parts of the song.

If you want to run in the park, then this song could help you change your tempo up. It gets boring running at the same speed all the time. Using this song, it would be great to sprint for the sections where the music speeds up and then continue to jog in the slower sections of the song.

Both of these methods will raise your heartrate and will also help to improve your speed. Otherwise, you could use this music at a boot camp or an obstacle course. Pretend you're spy trying to escape from your enemies. You'll be amazed how much fun you'll have and you'll get a great workout. Just make sure no-one else is watching or they might pack you off to the looney bin.

If Eric Pryde's Calls on Me isn't the perfect workout song, then I don't really know what is. The video is full of women wearing aerobics gear and exercising to the song.

Now I'm not saying you should wear a bright green thong to workout, and I can't imagine that would be comfortable, but clearly it's a good song to work up a sweat.

It has a great beat for a number of cardiovascular exercises and will get the blood pumping round your body. Just remember that if you do decide to listen to this at the gym, that people will think you're weird if you copy some of the dance moves from this video. You'll look less Flashdance and more like that weirdo that sings to themselves on the treadmill.

Of course, you could ignore my advice, give it a try and let us know how it went.

Daft Punk's One More Time is a great up-beat track. I love listening to this workout song when I near the end of my workout.

The song is very repetitive and makes me happy. No matter how tired I am or worn out after a hard session on the cross trainer, this song revitalises me and makes me keep going.

The song is all about how you're going to do it one more time. Sometimes that's what you need to keep in your head when you are lacking motivation to continue running round that track. At the same time, you can lose yourself in the song and forget that the next step is a chore and enjoy yourself instead.

If you are also a fan of the type of music from Daft Punk then there are other rocking tunes to choose from. Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger is a great Daft Punk song to workout to.

Whether or not you're a fan of Superman or not is irrelevant. Starlight by the Supermen Lovers will have you working out everyday of the week. It's a feel good song that can't help but get you off your butt and doing some cardio exercises.

The drum beat will keep your running paces regular and will have you dancing on the treadmill at the same time. I don't think you can feel depressed or down while listening to this song. It's a great track to keep you motivated and enjoying it at the same time.

Chris Brown sings a lot of great pop/dance songs and Forever is perfect for exercise.

This song has a number of great beats and tempo's that you can choose which one you want to co-ordinate your exercises with. The song also builds up and has a very positive vibe. This would be a great song to skip to.

Skipping is one of the best exercises for your heart and overall fitness and will be a test of your co-ordination and timing to do in time to music.

Sometimes you just need a great rock song to run to. Pink with U + Ur Hand does just that.

The song has great lyrics and tells a story. It always makes me feel like I am tough and ready for anything. It also makes me workout harder and more intensely. It reminds me that I am strongly independent. No-one else can make me fit. It's all on me and I have to do the work.

This song is perfect if you have been in a long-term relationship and have recently broken up. You have a few pounds to lose before you put yourself back on the dating market and is a good reminder of why you left that guy and why you are motivated to keep exercising. It'sone of my favorite workout songs for women.

While exercising you want to listen to your music in comfort. You don't want the headphones to fall out or off and you don't want to get tangled in all the cabling.

Here are some of the best headsets and earphones to use while exercising. All of these also have a handy control panel allowing you to skip, replay and control the volume while exercising, without trying to fish around in your pocket for your music player.

What's Your Best Workout Song?

There are so many great workout songs to choose from and everyone has their preference.

I prefer feel good dance tracks with great bass beats that make you want to get off your butt and dance. These types of songs can be the best to workout to as they keep you motivated and help prevent you from thinking of exercise as a necessary evil and instead help you have fun.

I also love songs that when you hear them in the car make you want to drive faster. I take a note of them because they will usually make me workout harder at the gym.

I hope you enjoyed my list of top 10 workout songs. Maybe you have some great workout music you'd like to share too. You can share your favorite workout music in the comments below.
