Updated on February 24, 2013

Game of Thrones Season 3 Review

Fans of Game of Thrones will be happy to hear that there will be a third installment on HBO, but will undoubtably be sad to hear they will have to wait almost a year to watch what comes next. Game of Thrones season 3 was given the green light within a week of airing the first episode of season 2 of the TV show. It's no surprise really when you consider how popular the first season was and also how popular the George R.R. Martin books are, of which the TV show is based and follows very closely.

Having read a number of the Game of Thrones books, I am pleasantly surprised to see the TV show has stuck closely to the storyline and are progressing at a good pace. A lot has happened in the series so far and there never seems to be a dull moment. However, I am also impatient for season 3 of Game of Thrones as there are a number of questions left in the views mind as to what will happen next.

Have You Read Game of Thrones?

If you love the Game of Thrones TV series, then you should reading the Game of Thrones books in order. I have and I absolutely love them! There's more in the books than they could ever fit into a ten episode season on the TV. Also, you get to know more about the individual characters and what they are thinking and why they are doing what they are doing. There would have to be so much more dialogue for you to get what is expressed in the books.

What's Likely to Happen in Season 3 of Game of Thrones? - Spoilers

If the Game of Thrones TV show continues to follow the format of the books then season 3 of Game of Thrones will be very exciting.

If you want to know what happens in season 3 of Game of Thrones then read the books.

So far the TV show hasn't strayed far from the books and it looks like they plan to continue on this path in the future.

At the end of season 2 of Game of Thrones, you saw some characters make some really bad decisions. Robb Stark broke his promise to Lord Frey and married a girl for love, instead of duty. Lord Frey is an unforgiving type and will punish Robb Stark and Lady Catelyn for this. Robb's army will also become divided after the betrayal and sides will be chosen. However, Lord Frey is cunning and will betray the Starks when they think they are safe. Expect Robb and Catelyn Stark to die, while enjoying the Frey hospitality.

Bran, Rickon, Hodo and Osha continue on towards the Wall. On the way they meet a brother and sister from another village who help Bran interpret and understand his dreams, and the other powers he is developing.

Sansa believed she was safe now that Joffrey has a new queen and was warned otherwise by Lord Petyr Bealish (Littlefinger). Sansa will eventually escape the castle, but not before she unwittingly helps to kill Joffrey.

The Tyrell's ask Sansa to join them to discuss what Joffrey is really like. When Sansa breaks down and tells them he is terrible the Tyrell's make a plan to rid themselves of Joffrey and make his younger brother the new king but still marry the same Tyrell girl.

The Tyrell's make plans to wed Sansa to one of their own. Sansa thinks this is a great way to escape Kings Landing. She doesn't realize that they are only trying to wed her because of her claim to Winterfell. With Bran and Rickon believed to be dead, Robb an enemy of the State and likely to be killed or already dead, Sansa has the best claim. The Lannisters put a spanner in the works by wedding Sansa to Tyrion instead. However, Tyrion is a gentlemen and promises not to touch Sansa.

Eventually, Tyrion is forced to kill his father and leaves the castle. Sansa also leaves and finds herself with Lord Baelish. What was it he was saying about needing to have children? Is this why Vary's approached the prostitute in Littlefingers business by any chance?

Jamie and Brienne continue to try and make their way to Kings Landing. On the way they are taken captive by some merceneries that work for Jamie's father, but this doesn't stop them from cutting off his hand. Once his sword hand is removed, Jamie suffers from depression and has no idea where his place in life is.

Arya continues to travel the countryside looking for her family while trying to avoid the dangers of the road and the war.

John Snow meets Mance Raider and becomes a member of the Wilding army. He breaks his oath and lies with a woman. He also marches with the Wildings to the wall.

Daenerys Targaryen continues on her quest to reclaim the Iron Throne. Meanwhile, her dragons continue to grow.

Stannis Baratheon continues on his quest for the Iron Throne, but turns to dark magic once again in the hopes of furthering his dreams. This season you will meet his daughter and find out why he has no sons.

And in the North, the White Walkers will play a big role and more light will be shed on why the Wildings in the North are gathering and are willing to risk everything going up against the wall, and perhaps even why the wall was really built over a 1000 years ago. People have forgotten the truth and Winter is coming.

If you've watched Game of Thrones this far then you'll want to keep watching the third season of Game of Thrones. Although the show only airs for 10 weeks those are some of the best scenes to be found on television and the show always has audiences wondering what will happen next.

The Game of Throne characters are well developed and believable. The best characters have fought adversity to get through life. Tyrion has done his best to not let being a Dwarf define him. He uses his mind to fight the bullies around him, including his nephew, father and sister.

Arya Stark doesn't want to be a normal silly girl that believes in fairytales and knights and dashing young men. She believes women should be able to choose their own paths and fight their own battles. She has survived this far due to her tenacious nature and is fighting her way back to her family. Will she be successful remains to be seen, but she does have the option of going to Bravos if she decides to leave her family behind her.

Daenerys Targaryen started off in the show as an innocent young girl who was at the mercy of her cruel elder brother. She was sold to a savage man, but was able to attain his love and the love of his people. She was then able to turn travesty into a blessing when she hatched her dragon eggs in the funeral pyre of her late husband. She then managed to beat the magician and the richest man in Qarth to reclaim her dragons and has great belief in herself.

Whatever these characters are able to achieve in season 3 of Game of Thrones is something you won't want to miss!
